Parasitic Jaeger/Arctic Skua (3) (Stercorarius parasiticus) User: lou_dav  (See all photos - 1086) (Comments - 733)
United States (Washington) Lighthouse Marine Park, Point Roberts Wa. A life list addition for me. The bird was close to shore due to the many Bonaparte's Gulls hunting for fish. There may have been a Herring run on this day.

Thayer's Gull (2) (Larus thayeri) User: Brian Morin  (See all photos - 1149) (Comments - 2808)
Canada (Ontario) Cornwall - This second adult Thayer's Gull has less head marking than the other bird. Some Thayer's Gulls have dark eyes but others are light. Both of these birds had eye colour similar to Herring Gulls. CORRECTION: After careful consideration and review by an experienced gull watcher this may be a hybrid Thayer's Gull and Kumlien's Iceland Gull.

Thayer's Gull (2) (Larus thayeri) User: Brian Morin  (See all photos - 1149) (Comments - 2808)
Canada (Ontario) Cornwall - This bird was a pleasant surprise. You can clearly see the smaller size compared with the adjacent Herring Gulls.

Germany Here an adult of the European subspecies (or maybe a distinct species) of the Herring Gull (argentatus). It looks very much the same as the American Herring Gull!

Yellow-legged Gull (3) (Larus cachinnans) User: Ivan M  (See all photos - 314) (Comments - 37)
Italy Large gull taxonomy is quite complex and new species come and go as genetic analyses are performed. In Europe, the Mediterranean form of the Herring Gull (ssp. michahellis) has been attributed species status quite recently, and it is now called (as you can see from the pic) Yellow-legged Gull.

Herring Gull (12) (Larus argentatus) User: bkinach  (See all photos - 544) (Comments - 123)
Canada (Québec) Beauharnois, QC. These young Herring Gulls still had down along the back of their necks and were too young to know enough to run away from a photographer.

Glaucous Gull (9) (Larus hyperboreus) User: Chris  (See all photos - 1491) (Comments - 4517)
Canada (Québec) If my id is correct, there are Glaucous, Iceland, Herring and Ring-billed Gulls in this photo. Anyone care to confirm? Seen at Saint-Anne des Monts, Quebec.

Glaucous Gull (9) (Larus hyperboreus) User: Chris  (See all photos - 1491) (Comments - 4517)
Canada (Québec) Not a great shot, but was finally able to photograph the Glaucous Gull. What I believe to be several species, including adult winter plumage (centre), immature first winter Glaucous (4th bird from the left), Great black-backed Gull (5th from left), Herring Gull (2nd from left) and other unidentified birds, possibly young Herring Gulls.

Lesser Black-backed Gull (9) (Larus fuscus) User: Brian Morin  (See all photos - 1149) (Comments - 2808)
Canada (Ontario) Russell - a regionally rare species that turns up in small numbers every year. Adults are easier to identify than immatures. Herring Gull size, dark gray not black back, smaller bill than Great Black-backed and yellow rather than flesh-coloured legs.
