Canada (Ontario) Ingleside - in the dying minutes of the day the bird was quite active. I have changed my strategy for shooting Snowy Owls. I no longer bother with morning shots and during the day they are on the ground, often well out in fields so inaccessible. I start looking by 2 p.m. on sunny days and 1:30 on cloudy days at this time of year. They are more alert from 3 on and active by 3:30. This can of course change from bird to bird.

Canada (Ontario) Ingleside - possible juvenile male. This is an individual I've had my sights on for a couple of weeks now but without success. Tracked it down today.

Canada (Québec) A winter storm warning in effect, temperature -19C and a strong wind didn't bother the provincial bird of Quebec - the Snowy Owl. Seen at St-Hubert Airport outside Montreal.

Ingleside - this is the same bird that I had 10 km further west a couple of days ago but with nice late day lighting. It found a new hangout.

Canada (Québec) Shortly after spotting a Merlin, this Snowy Owl glided over and may have attempted to take the prey of the Merlin which was down on the ground in the field. Seen near Saint Clet, Quebec.

Canada (Québec) Snowy Owl with the lights of Montreal's runway 24L-06R in the background. The avifauna control needed to use flares to scare the bird away from the runway several times. Additional pics in the forum under sightings.

Canada (Québec) This bird has been active around the Dorval base. Some employees reported seeing it sitting on lamp posts in the parking lot! That's when I decided to bring the camera in. Today, she was between the two runways overlooking the airport field. It's a very big bird, leading me to believe it's a female. Seen at Montreal Airport in Dorval, Quebec.

Canada (British Columbia) Iona Regional Park, Richmond BC This park is right beside Vancouver International Aipport. It also hosts a sewage treatment facility with a jetty that juts 4 KM out into the ocean. This owl was about halfway out on the jetty. I flushed it at first, but it settled close by and then co-operated for a couple of shots.
