Canada (British Columbia) Was walking by a thick tangle and out of the corner of my eye saw the bay colouring that told me something stood out in the tree. Happily he had prey in his feet. Reifel Bird Sanctuary, BC, Canada

Mew Gull (8) (Larus canus) User: Chris  (See all photos - 1448) (Comments - 4321)
Canada (British Columbia) Several wary Mew Gulls stopped on a small outcrop at North Saanich, BC. It was interesting that some had lighter eyes, some darker, and some had light feet and legs with other's more yellow.

Cooper's Hawk (44) (Accipiter cooperii) User: Chris  (See all photos - 1448) (Comments - 4321)
Canada (British Columbia) Help! After a long search through many images and discussions on the internet, I've come to the conclusion this is a Cooper's Hawk. However I've read lots of information that seems to contradict that conclusion. The main reason I think this is a Cooper's Hawk and not a Goshawk: the relatively thinner tail. The white superciliary line, heavy streaking down to the legs, large size seemed to indicate Goshawk at first, but when looking at the only Goshawk photo I've uploaded on Birdviewing, this bird seems different. There is a lot of variability in the images on the internet.
