Nelson's Sharp-tailed Sparrow (3) (Ammodramus nelsoni) User: Brian Morin  (See all photos - 1239) (Comments - 3251)
Canada (Ontario) Near Rondeau Provincial Park - this bird was a long time coming. I have not had luck in the past and it is a migrant that is found in or near cattails so you have to walk the edges during migration. One had been reported at this location so I tried and got lucky.

Merlin (55) (Falco columbarius) User: Brian Morin  (See all photos - 1239) (Comments - 3251)
Canada (Ontario) St. Rose - This is the easiest hawk to photograph. Rather than flying off when you are still 100+ feet away in your car, the bird will often remain until you are a reasonable diatance. That is especially true for young birds.

Canada (Ontario) Ingleside - It has been a good year for dowitchers showing up in different places in Ontario but of course in low numbers. The Long-billed is less commonly found in the East.

Pectoral Sandpiper (22) (Calidris melanotos) User: Brian Morin  (See all photos - 1239) (Comments - 3251)
Canada (Ontario) Ottawa - This 'juvie' is putting its best foot forward as it probes for dinner. We are in that interim period in the annual cycle, the shorebird season, which bridges summer and fall. This is one of the most interesting and challenging periods of birding and is for me more fun and satisfying than dealing with those 'confusing fall warblers'. This is especially true for photographers because more often than not if you strategize you don't need to chase them, they will come to you.
